Panmure Street and Albert Square, Dundee

This photograph shows the junction of Panmure Street in Dundee with the southern section of Meadowside, known as Albert Square. The lane to the right of the American Cable building was Pullar's Close.

No. 1 Panmure Street (the rather quaint building just left of centre) was the Anglo-American Telegraph Co., Ltd., whose superintendent was James Mitchell, who lived at No. 12 Forfar Road, Dundee. The building is still clearly recognisable (in 2000).

The Scottish Union & National Insurance Co., Ltd., whose residentr secretary was James Trotter. He lived in a villa called Helenslea, Tayview Terrace, East Newport. The large arched gateway to the right led into Royal Exchange Court.
