Panmure Street, Dundee - Ref: WC0522
This photograph shows the north side of Dundee's Panmure Street, with Meadowside running from south to north and left to right in the foreground. In the background, you can see the distinctive Greek columns of the city's High School.
In the foreground is the Union Bank of Scotland Ltd., with the offices of the Scottish Widows Fund. The Royal Excahnge (1854-5) stands on the opposite corner, the home of Dundee Chamber of Commerce. The original ornate tower was never built.
A distinctice feature of the reading-room is a series of 24 stained-glass windows, gifted by previous Presidents of the Chamber. The windows were 'executed with great taste and discrimination by Messrs. Hardman & Co., Birmingham'. (6th December 1883).
