Seagate, Dundee - Ref: WC0583

Seagate, Dundee

This photograph shows the south side of Dundee's Seagate, which runs east to west from Trades Lane to Commercial Street, linking an area dominated by warehouses with the city's business centre.

Alexander Wilson did not date the image, so it is difficult to say which businesses owned the properties shown. Much of the building space was occupied by warehouses.

In July 1906 a spectacular fire caused major damage in the street. Watson's Whisky Bond. The report in the Dundee Yearbook mentions 'a river of burning whisky' and says the roof of the collapsed within twenty minutes of the outbreak being discovered.
