Yeaman Shore, Dundee - Ref: WC0744

Yeaman Shore, Dundee

This photograph shows some ornate carved stonework on the outside of a house which stood in Yeaman Shore, an alleyway which led from Dundee’s Nethergate to the harbour area, the source of much of the city’s work.

The Yeaman family was originally from Dryburgh, and area of the city near Lochee. It seems likely that they owned a house there. George Yeaman is the most prominent member of the family, having served as the city Provost for four years.

Alexander Wilson, who took this photograph, was a supervisor in a Dundee jute mill for over 20 years. He bequeathed much of his collection and £50, to cover the costs involved, to the Free Library Committee of Dundee in 1923.
