"Buckingham" in Dundee Docks - Ref: WC0788
The "Buckingham" was one of many to undertake voyages from Calcutta and Chittagong to bring raw jute to Dundee for the processing mills and calenders. This photograph by Alexander Wilson was taken during one of her calls to port, possibly in late 1890.
The "Buckingham" was a steel four-masted ship (although the photograph shows a barque - ships were square-rigged on all masts) with a gross tonnage of 2668 and an overall length of 307.7 feet.
Built by T. Royden and Sons of Liverpool in 1888, she was registered to McVicar, Marshall and Co., of Liverpool, for the Steel Sailing Ship Buckingham Company.
