"Discovery" in Dundee Docks - Ref: WC0807
Built specifically for the National Antarctic Survey of 1901, the "Discovery" is one of Dundee's most famous attractions, forming as it does the focal point of one of the city's museums, Discovery Point.
One of the last three-masted wooden ships built in the country, she was launched by the Dundee Shipbuilding Company on 21st March 1901. After the voyage, Robert Falcon Scott made very precise reports on the performance of various aspects of the vessel.
She became trapped in iceflow and was effectively stranded for two winters. She was eventually freed by two other ships blasting the pack ice and cutting a passage through in 1904.
