Unidentified ship in Dundee Harbour - Ref: WC0935
This photograph by Alexander Wilson is unfortunately undated and without any specific information about the ship in question. Judging by her size, the four masted sailing ship was almost certainly a jute carrier.
The jute industry, in which Wilson was employed full time (photography being a pastime), was Dundee's main source of income, and accounted for the city's veritable wealth at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries.
The buildings on the skyline are unfortunately insufficient to give a reliable location. There are several churches with towers similar to the one at the right, and at least three jute mills had ornamental towers like that at the left.
