Transport - Railway engine at Bervie Station

This photograph from the Alexander Wilson Collection in Dundee Central Library shows a goods train being drawn by a 0-6-0 class steam locomotive. The caption says at Bervie Station.

Bervie was the line from Montrose to Aberdeen. The other stops on the route (as a passenger service) were St Cyrus, Lauriston, Johnshaven and Gourdon. The journey (there were six return trains per day in 1889) lasted 40 minutes on average.

That information comes from a timetable for May 1889 in the Central Library's Lamb Collection (Box 24). The return trip from Dundee to Bervie cost 11/6 (58p) first class and 5/10 (29p) third class. Second class was not available.
