Transport - Railways - West Station, Dundee (new) - Ref: WC1038
Thomas Barr, the chief engineer of the Caledonian Railway, drew up plans for the Scottish baronial style third Dundee West Station in 1889. This photograph by the Dundee amateur, Alexander Wilson, shows the west-facing frontage.
The redstone building replaced a stone structure, which had itself superceded the original wooden station. Trains from Dundee West ran to Perth and thence to London and the west coast.
Passengers travelling further north had to be taken by horse-drawn carriage to Dundee East Station, which belonged to the Dundee and Arbroath Railway company, which opened in 1858.
