Transport - Railways - West Station, Dundee (old) - Ref: WC1048
Dundee West Station was the terminus for the Caledonian Railway Company. This photograph by the Dundee jute calender manager, Alexander Wilson, shows the second station of 1864, with the third (opened 1889) taking.
The two-storey stone-built second station (the original station had been made of wood) was an Italianate building on South Union Street, with a centrally placed pediment beneath a clock tower.
The third station was designed by the Caledonian Railway's Chief Engineer, Thomas Burr. The red sandstone construction was the work of Blyth and Cunningham.
