Red Squirrel Project

Dundee Red Squirrel Project

Seen any Squirrels?

Dundee is the only City in Britain lucky enough to have a population of Red Squirrels. They can be seen jumping from tree to tree feasting on cones, seeds, berries and fungi in Camperdown Country Park, Templeton Woods, Caird Park and other wooded areas of the City. However, our native, sprightly squirrels are under threat from their larger rivals, the Grey Squirrels which were introduced to Scotland from America in the early 1900's, causing the endangered Red squirrels to slowly disappear…

Help is at hand! - The Dundee Red Squirrel Project began in 2002 and aims to 'protect and enhance the population of Red Squirrels in Dundee and to raise awareness and promote education in the community of the conservation of the Red Squirrel and its associated habitat'. Events have been held and surveys carried out by volunteers to help the Red Squirrels in Dundee. For more information view the video.
