Drug, Alcohol and Blood Borne Virus (BBV)

The Drug, Alcohol and Blood Borne Virus (BBV) Social Work team provide a service for individuals, families and carers whose lives are affected by blood borne virus (HIV/Hep C) and/or a drug and alcohol dependency. The service is personalised and will endeavour to assist individuals to sustain independence within their community.
Service information
The team works with people who have needs related to their difficulties and includes the following provision:
BBV
- Assist people to come to terms with their diagnosis and support them pre-treatment, during treatment and aftercare.
- Undertake holistic and personalised assessments in order to engage people with services that will promote independent community living. For example, providing social and personal care needs.
- Assess the needs of families and identify any support services that promote family well-being, including support for carers.
Drug/Alcohol
The team engage with people who have a range of needs related to their drug/alcohol addiction and:
- Assess and support parents or carers (of children) who have an alcohol or drug difficulty and where childcare concerns have been identified.
- Assess and support individuals who are at risk of abuse/neglect through their drug and or/alcohol use.
- Assess and support individuals whose social and personal needs are significantly affected by their drug and/or alcohol use.
- Assess and support carers of individuals who are affected by drug/alcohol and provide one to one support.
