Occupational Therapy Services

Occupational Therapists are available to advise and help people with disabilities in all age groups and in particular those who have more severe disabilities and illnesses.

When making an assessment of your needs the Occupational Therapist will discuss any problems you have in carrying out your daily tasks. The therapist will offer suggestions and practical help on how to cope with particular difficulties to maximise your independence.

This may include information about specialised equipment and you may be offered the opportunity to try out such items at the  Dundee Independent Living and Community Equipment Centre.

The Occupational Therapist will also recommend essential alterations to your house to meet your physical needs.

How do Occupational Therapists Help?

  • by advising you about how to obtain necessary specialised equipment;
  • by advising and guiding you through the process of making adaptations to your house if you are an owner/occupier;
  • by recommending adaptations you need to the owners of the property in which you live e.g. Dundee City Council, Housing Associations;
  • by advising you on the financial implications to you of any recommended provision;
  • by giving information and advice about other Social Work services available;
  • by providing support to you and your carer in understanding and coping with your disability.

Who Can Make a Referral to Occupational Therapy Service?

Anyone can contact the Occupational Therapy Service for advice and assistance. Having the following information ready when you make a referral ensures you receive an appropriate response:

  • name;
  • date of birth;
  • address;
  • medical condition, if known;
