Dundee City Council Leisure and Communities Department’s Sports Development Section, has teamed together with SportDunee formerly (Dundee City Sports Council) to present the 9th SportDundee Awards.

This award ceremony is held to formally recognise and reward the success, commitment and dedication of athletes, clubs, coaches, teams, officials and volunteers within Dundee .

The 2009 SportDundee Awards will be held on Wednesday 25th November 2009 at the Invercarse Hotel. The purpose of the Awards evening is to celebrate and honour the achievements and efforts of volunteers, coaches, officials, teams and individual athletes involved in local sport.

Nominate Now

Nominations for each of the awards are invited from individuals or organisations that know a person, team or club whom they feel deserves recognition for their achievements during 2009. Three finalist nominations from each category will be pre-selected and invited to attend the Awards Ceremony, where the winners will be announced.

There are 3 ways to submit nominations:

There is also an awards brochure with information on the Award Categories which provides guidelines and essential criteria to assist you with your nomination.

We invite you to nominate any person who is involved in sport that you feel deserves the recognition that one of the SportDundee 2009 awards will bring.

  • University of Abertay Team of the Year. Ray Llloyd from Abertay and Charlotte Jones representing the winners Grove Ladies Hockey Club 1st team.
  • SportDundee Young Team of the Year, winners Menziehill Hockey Club Under 16’s, with Maureen Golden (co chair of SportDundee).
  • Evening Telegraph Club of the Year Menziehill Whitehall Swimming and Water Polo Club with June Riddoch of the Evening Telegraph.
  • Dundee City Council Official of the Year winner Margaret Ringsell with Councillor Elizabeth Fordyce of Dundee City Council.
  • Euan Burton, guest speaker.

  • Dundee City Council Young Volunteer of the Year Award, winner Liam Bowie and Councillor Bob Duncan of Dundee City Council.

  • Sport Tayside and Fife Coach of the Year winner Beate Petersen, with Brian Samson from Sport Tayside and Fife.
  • JTC Community Coach of the Year runners up Pam Bowie and Rab Benvie. Representative from JTC. William McGregor (winner) wasn’t present.
  • Three generations of the Bowie Family: Margaret Ringsell (Official of the Year winner), Pam Bowie (Community Coach of the Year, runner up) and Liam Bowie (Young Volunteer of the Year winner).
