How do I become a Member of the Children’s Panel?
Panel members are volunteer members of the public who come from all walks of life and are appointed to serve on Children’s Hearings by Scottish Ministers on advice from the local Childrens Panel Advisory Committees. There is an annual recruitment campaign held in the Autumn of year at which time various initiatives are undertaken both nationally and locally to heighten awareness and attract suitable applicants from as wide a representation of the general public as possible. Panel members are trained to see the child as well as the problem. No formal qualifications are required. The only requirement is that you either work or live in the area which you are to serve and have the ability to listen before helping children. Full training is provided over a 5 month period for prospective panel members and it is expected that you attend in-service training throughout the duration of appointment.
If you feel you have the qualities to make a real difference to a child’s life and are interested in serving on the Children’s Panel please contact:
