Matthew Fitt, Author: Biography

Matthew Fitt, AuthorMatthew Fitt was born in Dundee in 1968 and started writing when he was fifteen. He studied English literature at Edinburgh University but Scots literature and language have always been a passion. He is best known for his poetry, for example Kate O’Shanter’s Tale and Other Poems and Sair Heid City, but it was his novel, But ‘n’ Ben A-go-go, a science fiction tale in Scots that brought him to critically acclaimed prominence.

More recently as National Schools and Communities Scots Language Development Officer he and fellow writer, James Robertson, launched Itchy Coo books, a best selling and award winning series of Scots language books for children and young people which include such titles as: A Moose in the Hoose, The Hoose ‘o’ Haivers, and, King ‘o’ the Midden.

In addition to his writing, Matthew, a qualified teacher, works in schools across the country promoting creative writing and the Scots language. His workshops are extremely well received as he has a unique and entertaining presentation style that engages audiences of all ages and backgrounds.

Keith Robson, Illustrator: Biography

Keith Robson, IllustratorKeith Robson was born and educated in Hartlepool and has lived in Newport-on-Tay, Fife for many years.

He worked as a Staff Illustrator with DC Thomson on many of the firm’s publications including: Dandy, Beano, Topper, Victor, Bunty and Starblazer Libraries series. He has drawn, Jonah, General Jumbo, Desperate Dan, Korky the Cat.

Since 1974 he has been a freelance illustrator and model maker. He has worked for children’s TV on series such as: Story Store, Magic House, Story House, Math’s Zone, Furry Tales and Squeak! In addition, Keith has worked on Gaelic school’s programmes including: Ioma-Rud and Na Daoine Beaga.

Keith has held workshops for Tayside Regional Council, Fife Council, Liberton High School and, nearer to home, Newport Primary School.

His work for adults includes illustrations for the Scots Magazine and The Fireside Book. His work has been syndicated abroad and he has worked on school text books and designed covers for City Guides.
