Plastic Bag Free Dundee
Every year, Scotland uses approximately 1 billion plastic bags! This is the equivalent of 200 bags for each person in Scotland!
Dundee City Council launched a “plastic Bag free Dundee” campaign in December 2007. To launch the campaign approximately 2,500 reusable bags (made from sustainable jute) were handed out free of charge to members of the public on Saturday 1st December at participating retail stores in the city centre.
Reusing the same shopping bag rather than accepting new bags every time you go shopping reduces the amount of bags you have to dispose of.
Below are some hints for you to play your part in Dundee becoming plastic bag free:
- Use your shopping bag as many times as possible
- Remember to take bags with you every time you go shopping
- Keep spare bags in your car or at work so you’re never without
- Invest in stronger reusable bags, sometimes known as bags for life
- Let the check-out staff know you’ve brought your own before they pack for you!
