Explore how travel changed during the time of Dr T. A. Wise's journeys around the world with the introduction of steam power. Steamships came in to practical use in the early 1880s, not only opening up trade routes but making travel more regular and comfortable. The introduction of steampowered ships in 1857 saw Dundee on its way to becoming Scotland's premier whaling port and opened the City up to a further global economy.
