Dundee in UK's top cities for foreign investment

Dundee in UK

Dundee has been named as one of the UK’s top 20 cities for foreign investment in a new report.

The EY Attractiveness Survey Scotland 2022 report looks at performance and perceptions of a city as a destination for foreign direct investment.

The survey placed Dundee in 15th place in an index of rankings compared with cities such as Edinburgh, Manchester, Oxford and Cambridge.

Dundee was recognised in the report for having increased the city’s number of FDI projects to a total of seven in the past year.

The report highlights that foreign investors, when looking outwith London in the UK, seek an available and skilled local workforce, a strong local business network, support from regional economic advisory bodies and an understanding of the local labour costs.

City Development Convener Mark Flynn said: “This is very positive news for the city. Dundee is being recognised for being, and continuing to be, an attractive place for businesses to establish themselves in for their strong growth into the future.

“The survey acknowledges that high-quality skilled workers across sectors is a big driver in drawing investment, and I have no doubt this contributes to businesses choosing to operate in Dundee in order to achieve their full potential.

“The FDI figures assessed by EY have shown Dundee continues to be a place open for investment with a strong economic input to the city coming from ventures from abroad.”

Council Leader John Alexander said: “It’s great to see the city’s ambition and determination being recognised on a wider stage.

“The city’s inclusion in this report shows we have an excellent reputation in key areas which will continue to attract investment and businesses to play a big part to getting the city to where we want it to be in the coming years.

“Our city has a lot to offer and I’m sure foreign direct investment will play an important part in Dundee growing stronger in the future.

“Like any city, Dundee has its issues. However, I believe the city is on a path to fulfilling its potential and achieving longer-term goals for local residents and businesses.”
