Lord Provost Bill Campbell Blog #8 Image

Hello, and welcome to my End of Month Blog #8 as the Lord Provost of Dundee.

This month, I have began sharing information on the duties of the Lord Provost and the role that the Lord Provost’s Office and Civic Department has within the city.

Also, within my role is the responsibility of being Lord Lieutenant of Dundee, which means that I am the King’s representative in the city. I will host visits from members of the Royal Family, and I previously attended both the service at St Giles in Edinburgh and also the funeral service for the Queen in Westminster Abbey in London.

Activities over the past month included:

  • On New Year’s Day, Depute Lord Provost Kevin Cordell started the Ye Amphibious Ancients Bathing Association’s Broughty Ferry Dook for their annual event which raises money for good causes;
  • On Monday 9th, I welcomed my first foots of 2023 to the civic department for a chat and a tour;
  • On Tuesday 10th, guests from the council’s Work Experience Graduate programme were welcomed to the City Chambers for a tour of the civic floor;
  • On Friday 20th, I welcomed Rear Admiral Thorsten Marx of the German Navy and Commander of Standing NATO Maritime Group One (SNMG1) and a group of Naval Officers to my office, which included a tour of the civic floor and City Chambers;
    • In the evening, accompanied by the Lady Provost, I was welcomed onboard the Flagship German Frigate Mecklenburg Vorprommern. Two other frigates visited our city; the Royal Navy Frigate HMS Portland and the Polish Frigate ORP Gen. T. Kosciuszko.
    • On Monday 23rd, I again met up with the naval officers including Rear Admiral Marx to lay a wreath at the International Submarine Memorial in Dundee.
  • On Saturday 21st, the Lady Provost and I attended the 2023 Edinburgh Official Chinese New Year Concert at the Usher Hall to celebrate The Year of the Rabbit;

For updates as they occur, the latest Lord Provost news and activities are available on both Facebook and Twitter.

Thank you for taking the time to read my Blog and I hope to update you further on my civic responsibilities in the next edition which will summarise my activity across February.
