Members' Training and Development 2017/18

During the course of 2017/2018, briefings and seminars were arranged for members on the following topics:

Members continued to have access to a wide range of online learning resources developed by the Improvement Service for Local Government, such as notebooks, exercises, e-learning modules and publications on topics such as promoting change and improvement, working collaboratively, political understanding, decision making, leadership and effective communication.

Written briefings are also provided for members by the Improvement Service on current policy issues, with recent topics including:

  • Money advice services
  • Mental health strategy
  • Scrutiny
  • Health inequalities
  • Participatory budgeting
  • Alcohol harm in communities
  • Civil contingencies
  • Procurement

In addition, members have access to the Scottish Local Government Information Unit's daily bulletin of articles relevant to local authorities in Scotland.
