A-Z Recycling Guide

We understand it can be a little confusing knowing which items can or cannot be recycled, what you should do with them or which bin to use. To help make things easier, we’ve put together an A-Z guide for residents that provides guidance on what to do when disposing of items.

Recycling if you live in a flat or tenement

Bring Sites have been provided to make it easier for residents living in flats and tenements in Dundee to recycle. Please be considerate of others when using these facilities.

Recycling points are smaller in scale and have a more limited number of bins than Recycling Centres. However, they are sited in locations throughout Dundee.

What can and cannot go in your bins

Grey (General Waste) Blue (Paper & Cardboard) Burgundy (Metals, plastics, cartons) Green Caddies (Food Waste) Brown (Garden Waste)

No large/bulky items - please do not place large/bulky items for disposal/recycling into your bins. These bins should only be used for everyday household items. If you have larger bulky items, please take these to your nearest Household Waste Recycling Centre or use our Bulky Uplift Service.

Glass Panes (broken windows etc)	DIY & Home	Not currently recycled. Do not place in Glass recycling bins. If broken glass place in Grey general waste bin or dispose of at Riverside or Baldovie recycling centres.
Loft Insulation	DIY & Home	Can be disposed of Riverside or Baldovie Recycling Centres.
Metal (Scrap)	DIY & Home	Can be recycled at Riverside or Baldovie recycling centres. Do not place in Burgundy Recycling Bins. Do not place in Grey non-recyclable waste bins.
Paint Cans/Pots (Metal/plastic)	DIY & Home	We can only accept empty metal or plastic paint pots at Baldovie or Riverside Recycling Centres. What to do with paint pots? Do not place in Burgundy recycling bin.
Rubble	DIY & Home	Can be recycled at Riverside or Baldovie recycling centres.
Sprays/Aerosol Cans	DIY & Home	Ensure aerosols are completely empty before recycling. Do not pierce, crush or flatten aerosol cans. Can be disposed of at Riverside or Baldovie recycling centres.
Tubes (DIY - Glue/adhesives etc)	DIY & Home	Not currently recycled. Do not place in Burgundy Recycling Bins. Place in Grey non-recyclable waste bin.
Wood	DIY & Home	Can be recycled at Riverside or Baldovie recycling centres. Please ensure wood/timber is free from other materials e.g. fabrics, plastic coatings etc. Creosote treated timber is not accepted, and can be disposed of in the recyclable waste skips. Pallet wood can be locally upcycled into new products.
