There is fantastic work going on across Dundee, with lots of community groups, schools, businesses and organisations getting behind the Take Pride in Your City campaign.
Dundee has been doing loads to help tackle litter, with at least 40 clean up events held by volunteers during 2018. This included 20 during the annual Clean Up Scotland Spring Clean and Week of Action on Roadside Litter. We were also the first Local Authority area to have a Community Litter Prevention Action Plan, this is made up of plans from individual businesses, organisations, the Council and community groups.
There were 18 groups registered with It’s Your Neighbourhood during 2018, this is a community environmental improvement initiative managed by Keep Scotland Beautiful. Projects included community allotments, after school wildlife and gardening groups and Friends of parks groups. All groups received an Advancing level certificate or above from Keep Scotland Beautiful with 4 groups achieving a Certificate of Distinction for their commitment and improvement over a number of years.
All of this great work helps to contribute to Dundee’s entry into the Beautiful Scotland awards which assesses horticultural achievement, environmental responsibility and community participation. The Bonnie Dundee entry, which is for Dundee city, retained a Silver Gilt medal in 2018 and we were awarded the Visit Scotland Award for Tourism for the Slessor Gardens and Waterfront area. The Broughty Ferry in Bloom entry also did a fantastic job and were awarded a Gold medal for the first time.
We look forward to seeing even more involvement in 2019 so please get in touch if you have any news about how you’ve been taking pride in Dundee!
