I RECOGNISED COLLECTIONS OF NATIONAL SIGNIFICANCE

There was submitted Agenda Note AN20-2008 advising the Committee that at a meeting of the Scottish Museums Council Recognition Committee held on 14th January, 2008, a decision was made to award "recognised status" to Dundee's Art and Whaling Collections.

The Recognition Scheme aims to celebrate Scotland's Museum Collection, and the award of this status is based upon comprehensive evidence of quality research, publication, citation and service confirming that the collections should be recognised as being of national significance.

Recognition enables applications of up to 40,000 to be made to the Recognition Fund which is aimed at raising standards of collection management and public services for Recognised Collections.

The Committee noted accordingly.

II MAJOR ARTWORK COMMISSION

There was submitted Report No 77-2008 by the Director of Leisure and Communities seeking approval to enter into a contract with artist, David Batchelor, for the commission of a major artwork for installation in the redeveloped McManus Galleries and Museum.
