Dundee City Council is once again supporting Challenge Poverty Week.

Challenge Poverty Week (3rd-9th October) is a Scottish-wide campaign that highlights that too many people are living in poverty and showcases positive action that is being taken to combat this.

Each day throughout Challenge Poverty Week, the Council will focus on a different theme and will highlight some of many local organisations that it collaborates with.

There are a number of events going on this week including a Draught Excluders workshop with Transition Dundee at the Wardrobe, an information and advice pop up event in Broughty Ferry Library and a Civic Reception held for the Dundee Community Food Network.

More information about how the Council supports Challenge Poverty Week can be found on our website.

Leader of Dundee City Council, Councillor John Alexander, said: “We are all aware of the rise in the cost of living which is pulling more and more people into poverty and we are committed as a Council to support those who need help.

“The week is designed to show that a society without poverty is possible, and to showcase solutions we can all get behind.

“Highlighting the sources of help available, showing compassion and dedicating ourselves to supporting those in need can really make a difference.”

This year’s Challenge Poverty Week theme is #TurnTheTide and you can find out more information on the Challenge Poverty website.

Councillor Alexander added: “Of course, while I’m pleased that the Council is supporting Challenge Poverty Week again this year, the sad reality is that challenging poverty is something we need to do all year round.

“Ensuring that all our children, citizens and communities have the best opportunities and lives, free from poverty and inequality, will be a key focus of our new City Plan.

“I would encourage anyone affected by poverty in Dundee not to suffer alone. The Council and its partners are here to help.”
