Work Experience Programme

Dundee City Council Work Experience Programme

Dundee City Council’s Work Experience Programme allows S3 &S4 Pupils a chance to take up positions with local and national companies Over a five day period. We also place S5 & S6 pupils on longer placements as part of their overall curriculum.

The Scheme

The S3/S4 scheme lasts from March until November and employers are invited Four times a year to offer places. The places are then offered to the pupils on a computer system allowing them to apply for the position. Their own Teachers will ultimately decide which pupils will be given the position depending on suitability. Employers will be kept informed throughout the scheme regarding anyone who will be joining their organisation and the dates they will arrive. Safety equipment will be supplied by Dundee City Council if required. The S5/S6 scheme would involve longer placements where a student might come to work for a morning or a full day for an agreed time period.

The Aim of the Scheme

  • Provide students with an opportunity to relate school studies with a workplace
  • Give students an insight into the diversity of employees in the workplace
  • Prepare students for the demands and expectations of the working world
  • Help students make informed career decisions by assessing their aptitudes and interests, and exploring potential careers
  • Improve students’ maturity, confidence and self-reliance
  • Provide a link between school and local community
  • Provide students with appropriate knowledge, skills and attitudes concerning both paid and unpaid work

Why should any employer be involved?

  • Do you want to gain a fresh and perhaps insightful perspective on your company?
  • Do you want to attract talent or recruit future apprentices for your business?
  • Are you passionate about upskilling the workforce of the future?
  • Are you interested in improving your corporate social responsibility?

We would be excited to hear from individuals, parents and businesses that feel this scheme would be beneficial.
