The minute of meeting of this Committee of 16th April, 2001 was held as read.

I DUNDEE INDUSTRIAL HERITAGE

 

The Convener referred to funding problems being experienced by Dundee Industrial Heritage due to a shortfall in visitor numbers to Verdant Works and Discovery Point.

 

The Committee noted that the Director of Arts and Heritage would be submitting a detailed report to the June meeting of this Committee.

 

II DUNDEE SCIENCE CENTRE (SENSATION) - REVENUE SUPPORT 2001 TO 2002

 

The Director of Arts and Heritage submitted Report No. 205-2001 requesting renewal of revenue funding to Dundee Science Centre (Sensation) for the year 2001 to 2002.

 

The Committee approved the level of grant funding amounting to 26,000 as set out in the report.

 

III MAJOR PROJECT GRANTS AND SMALL PROJECT GRANTS

 

The Director of Arts and Heritage submitted Report No. 274-2001 seeking approval to award grants totalling 1,050 as detailed in the appendix to the report.

 

The Committee authorised payment.

 

IV DIGITAL MEDIA CREATIVE PRODUCTION FUND

 

The Director of Arts and Heritage submitted Report No. 275-2001 outlining proposals for the establishment of a Digital Media Creative Production Fund in partnership with Scottish Screen.

 

The Committee agreed to support the establishment of the fund.

 

V EUROPEAN CULTURAL FORUM OF LOCAL AUTHORITIES

 

The Director of Arts and Heritage submitted Report No. 276-2001 outlining the formation of a European Cultural Forum of Local Authorities.

 

The Committee agreed that Dundee City Council become a member of the Forum at a cost of 1,000 euros, renewable annually which equated to 622 at current exchange rates.

VI PUBLIC CONSULTATION PHASE IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF A CULTURAL STRATEGY FOR DUNDEE

 

There was submitted Joint Report No. 280-2001 by the Director of Arts and Heritage and the Director of Leisure and Parks seeking approval to the circulation of the document "Dundee Cultural Strategy 2001 to 2006, Public Consultation".

 

The Committee noted the contents of the draft and proposals for public consultation and authorised the Director of Arts and Heritage and the Director of Leisure and Parks to proceed to finalise a cultural strategy after appropriate public consultation for submission to the Council.

 

VII DUNDEE JAZZ FESTIVAL 2001 GRANT

 

The Director of Arts and Heritage submitted Report No. 308-2001 seeking approval to award a grant to Assembly Direct towards the cost of programming Dundee Jazz Festival from 21st to 27th May, 2001.

 

The Committee authorised the payment of a grant of 4,750 to Assembly Direct.

 

VIII DUNDEE.COM

 

The Director of Arts and Heritage reported that the design and look of the dundee.com website was now available with a view to a live start in October 2001 and a five minute animated graphic describing the site had been set up in the City Chambers for Members and Chief Officers to view.

 

The Committee approved the work undertaken by Mr J Greig in setting up the dundee.com website.
