I ALTERATION TO STANDING ORDERS

 

It was reported that the undernoted elected members had requisitioned this meeting in terms of Standing Order Number 49(2) to enable Councillors to discuss an alteration to Standing Orders to allow for procedures whereby a simple majority of the members of the Council could vote to achieve the early removal from office of the Lord Provost in line with the Local Government etc (Scotland) Act 1994 Part 1, Section 4(3)(b) -

The Committee approved the undernoted amendment to Standing Orders in accordance with Standing Order 72(1).

 

Standing Order 19 Add at end new paragraph:

 

"The Lord Provost shall not preside over any meeting called for the purpose of removing him/her from office. The Deputy Lord Provost shall preside at such meetings, in his/her absence the Leader of the Administration shall preside, whom failing another member of the Council chosen by members shall preside".

 

Add new Standing Order 20 and re-number the remaining Standing Orders:

 

Removal of Lord Provost

 

20.A simple majority of Councillors present and voting at any meeting of the Council called for that purpose may remove the Lord Provost from office with immediate effect.
