Advisory Committee (social Work) - 18/06/2001

At a MEETING of the ADVISORY COMMITTEE (SOCIAL WORK) held at Dundee on Monday, 18th June, 2001.

I MINUTE

 

The minute of meeting of this Committee of 26th February, 2001 was submitted and approved.

 

On a reference to Article IV(ii) of the minute, the Convener welcomed Mrs Catherine Maidment of Dundee Independent Advocacy to her first meeting of the Advisory Committee.

 

II REGISTRATION AND INSPECTION UNIT - UPDATE

 

The Head of Registration and Inspection gave a brief verbal update of the work of the Registration and Inspection Unit.

 

She advised of various developments with regard to provision in Dundee.

 

It was noted that there was limited information available at present regarding the future position, until such time as the Commission's Chief Executive posts were announced.

 

III REGULATION OF CARE BILL

 

It was reported that the Bill had now completed Stage 3 of the Parliamentary process.

 

Many amendments had been incorporated into the Bill including bi-annual inspections and the regulation of nannies. Advisory Committees were not to be retained although there was provision in the Bill for a National Advisory Forum. Further details would be supplied when available.

 

In addition the Head of Registration and Inspection reported on the transitional issues arising from the Bill and the transfer of the service and staff from Local Authority control to the Commission in March 2002.

 

IV CONSULTATION DOCUMENTS

 

(i) The Future for Care Homes in Scotland

 

(ii) Draft National Care Standards - Second Tranche

 

Copies of the above mentioned consultation documents had been circulated to the Committee. It was reported that the Head of Registration and Inspection was preparing a response on behalf of the Council, in respect of each document.

 

Members of the Advisory Committee were asked to submit any comments to the Head of Registration and Inspection as soon as possible.

 

V DISTRIBUTION OF INSPECTION REPORTS

 

The Head of Registration and Inspection submitted details of annual reports since April and members were asked to advise the Clerk if they wished copies of any of them.

VI DATE OF NEXT MEETING

 

It was agreed that the next meeting take place in September (precise date to be advised).
