I EDUCATION DEPARTMENT - RECOMMENDATION FOR DISMISSAL OF A TEACHER

It was reported that a recommendation to dismiss a Teacher had been submitted by the Director of Education.

The Sub-Committee heard the Council's representative and thereafter, the Appellant's representative. After questions had been put and answers given by both parties to each other and by members of the Sub-Committee and its advisors, the parties withdrew from the meeting.

Thereafter, following careful consideration of all the information, the Convener, seconded by Councillor Fordyce moved that the Director of Education's recommendation should be accepted.

As an amendment Mr Baillie, seconded by Monsignor Creegan, moved that no decision on the Director of Education's recommendation should be taken meantime, but that the Education Committee should be asked to consider his application for early retirement.

On a division, there voted for the motion - the Convener and Councillors Regan, Ward, Fordyce, Bowes and Wallace (6); and for the amendment - Councillor Beattie, Mr Baillie and Monsignor Creegan (3) - whereupon the motion was declared carried.

GEORGE DE GERNIER, Convener.
