I OLYMPIA - REPLACEMENT SPRING BOARD MOUNTING

 

There was submitted Agenda Note AN121-2002 advising that as a result of regular inspections of the Boards at Olympia wear and tear of important elements had emerged which required major overhaul.

 

The Committee agreed to accept the offer of 7,785 from the special supplier, Dive Gym Equipment Limited, Wheathamstead, Herts., to carry out the necessary works.

 

II LEISURE & PARKS AND ARTS & HERITAGE DEPARTMENTS' SERVICE PLANS FOR 2001/2002 -REPORT ON PERFORMANCE

 

The Director of Leisure and Arts submitted Report No. 495-2002 on the performance of the above Departments in relation to their 2001/2002 Service Plans.

 

The Committee noted the contents of the report and remitted to the Director of Leisure & Arts to develop a four year service plan for 2002-2007 for the Leisure & Arts Department and report back to this Committee.

 

III CYCLISTS AND RUNNERS - ACCESS TO OLYMPIA SHOWER FACILITIES

 

The Director of Leisure and Arts submitted Report No. 515-2002 seeking approval for a pilot scheme aimed at encouraging people who worked in the City Centre to travel to and from work without the need to use their cars.

 

The Committee approved the pilot initiative to encourage healthy lifestyles through the provision of inexpensive shower and changing facilities at Olympia for city centre workers cycling or running to work and noted that the scheme would operate between 6.30 a.m. and 9.00 a.m. on weekdays.

 

IV DUNDEE PLAY AREA TENDER REPORT PHASE 3 REFURBISHMENTS

 

The Director of Leisure and Arts submitted Report No. 540-2002 seeking approval for Dundee Contract Services to undertake the implementation of the above Phase 3 refurbishment works and to appoint an external consultant to carry out the contract administration of the Phase 3 contract.

 

The Committee agreed that the offer from Dundee Contract Services amounting to 211,348.98 be accepted and approved the undernoted Leisure & Arts Department's nominated suppliers:-

V SENSATION (DUNDEE SCIENCE CENTRE) - REVENUE SUPPORT 2002-2003

 

The Director of Leisure and Arts submitted Report No. 524-2002 requesting renewal of revenue funding to Sensation (Dundee Science Centre) for the year 2002-2003.

 

The Committee approved grant funding amounting to 27,000.

 

VI SPORTS DEVELOPMENT - OUT OF SCHOOLS CARE CLUBS

 

The Director of Education and Director of Leisure and Arts submitted Joint Report No. 542-2002 seeking approval to develop the pilot initiative which ran from August 2001 to June 2002 to improve provision of sports development activities within all Out of Schools Care Clubs in Dundee.

 

The Committee

 

(a)approved the funding of 43,400 for the establishment of a fixed term Sports Co-ordinator post to be located in the Leisure & Arts Department and

 

(b)remitted to the Director of Education and the Director of Leisure & Arts to liaise with the Director of Personnel and Managements Services in order to establish the temporary post.

 

VII TENDERS RECEIVED

 

The City Architectural Services Officer submitted Report No. 514-2002 giving details of offers received for the undernoted contracts:-

 

(a) CAMPERDOWN - INFRASTRUCTURE 2002

 

The Committee agreed to accept the lowest offer by Jaydee Heating and Electrical to carry out the above works for the sum of 19,599.60 to which required to be added an allowance of 4,416 for professional services making a total expenditure of 24,015.60.

 

(b) DUNDEE ICE ARENA

 

(i) Safety Barrier to Disabled Viewing Gallery

 

The Committee agreed to accept the offer from the specialist company Gray & Dick Limited, Glasgow amounting to 12,185 to which required to be added allowances of 322 for building warrant and 1,462 for professional services, making a total expenditure of 13,969.

 

(ii) Door to Disabled Viewing Gallery

 

The Committee agreed to accept the specialist offers from Dor-O-Matic, Leamington Spa amounting to 2529.50 and ADT Fire and Security plc amounting to 260 together with an allowance of 334 for professional services, making a total expenditure of 3,123.50.

 

(iii) Control of Plant

 

The Committee agreed to accept the offer from the specialist company Honeywell Control Systems Limited, Motherwell amounting to 10,246 to which required to be added an allowance of 1,145 for professional services making a total expenditure of 11,391.

 

VIII BARNHILL CEMETERY SURFACING REPAIRS

 

There was submitted Agenda Note AN122-2002 advising that the Director of Leisure and Arts had instructed the City Engineer to prepare proposals for repairs to the existing roads at Barnhill Cemetery.

 

The Committee accepted the offer from Goodfellow Plant, Alyth amounting to 7,992 to carry out the works together with an allowance of 2,008 for contingencies and professional fees making a total expenditure of 10,000.
