I MINUTES OF MEETINGS OF SCHOOL ATTENDANCE SUB-COMMITTEE OF 21ST/22ND JANUARY, 2003

 

The minutes of the above meetings (Appendices 1 & 2) were submitted for information.

 

II TENDERS RECEIVED - CITY ENGINEER

 

There was submitted Report No 120-2003 by the City Engineer detailing tenders received and requesting a decision thereon:-

 

(i) COTTON ROAD NURSERY - RENEWAL AND REPLACEMENT OF PLAYGROUND SHELTER

 

The Committee agreed to accept the lowest offer which was received from Muirfield Contracts for the removal and replacement of a playground shelter at Cotton Road Nursery for 11,557.79 together with allowances of 4,942.21 giving a total of 16,500.

 

III APPOINTMENT OF CONTRACTORS - SCIENCE AND HOME ECONOMICS CLASSROOMS IN SCHOOLS

 

Reference was made to Article II of the meeting of this Committee held on 20th January, 2003, where approval was given to negotiate contracts and enter into formal partnering agreements for upgrading science and home economics classrooms in schools.

 

There was submitted Agenda Note AN67-2003 asking the Committee to note that Forman Construction Limited and Torith Limited had now been appointed as the partnering contractors for these works.

 

The Committee noted accordingly.

 

IV VARIOUS EDUCATION PROPERTIES - WATER HYGIENE

 

There was submitted Report No 152-2003 by the City Architectural Services Officer seeking Committee approval for extending the existing contract.

 

The Committee agreed to extend the existing contract and incur estimated additional expenditure of approximately 50,000.

 

V RETAINING RESERVED PLACES IN SCHOOLS

 

There was submitted Report No 156-2003 by the Director of Education reviewing the allocation of reserved places and proposing an allocation of reserved places for session 2003 - 2004.

 

The Committee agreed to approve the proposals to reserve places in schools as set out in Appendix I of the report.

 

VI NEW OPPORTUNITIES FUND - QUALITY CHILDCARE INITIATIVE

 

There was submitted Report No 166-2003 by the Director of Education seeking approval to proceed with a portfolio application to New Opportunities Quality Childcare Project.

 

The Committee agreed to note the contents of the report and approved the recommendations for inclusion of projects in the Dundee Early Years and Childcare Partnership application to NOF Quality Childcare as outlined in Appendix 2 of the report.
