I SUPPLY OF OFFICE SUPPLIES

 

There was submitted Report No 623-2003 by the Director of Education seeking approval to accept tenders for the supply of office supplies to schools and other sites in Dundee City Council, Angus Council and Perth & Kinross Council.

 

The Committee agreed to award the contract for the supply of office supplies for the period 1st October, 2003 to 30th September, 2005 to:

 

Langstane Press Ltd, Unit 1, Angus Works, Tannadice Street, Dundee DD3 7PT

Corrie Service Ltd, Unit 1, Keiller Buildings, Mains Loan, Dundee DD4 7BT

 

II EQUALITY SCHEME AND ANTI-BULLYING/ANTI-RACIST POLICY

 

There was submitted Report No 507-2003 by the Director of Educating seeking approval for the Education Department Equality Scheme and Anti-Bullying/Anti-Racist Policy for Head Teachers, schools and services which updated the authority's policy and procedures on Equality and proposed new measures for Race Equality.

 

The Committee agreed to:-

 

(i)note and approve the Education Department Equality Scheme and Anti-Bullying/Anti-Racist Policy, and

 

(ii)instructed the Director of Education to monitor the implementation of the policy, including feedback from schools' Bullying and Racist incidents.

 

III TENDERS RECEIVED

 

There was submitted Report No 599-2003 by the City Architectural Services Officer detailing tenders received and requesting a decision thereon.

 

(i) BRAEVIEW ACADEMY ? RESURFACING OF CAR PARK

 

The Committee agreed to accept the schedule of rates offer from Dundee Contract Services for resurfacing the car park at Braeview Academy for 14,200 together with allowances of 2,130, giving a total of 16,330.

 

(ii)ST LUKES AND ST MATHEWS PRIMARY SCHOOL ? RENEWAL OF ROOF COVERINGS

 

The Committee agreed to accept the negotiated offer from Dundee Contract Services for renewal of roof coverings at St Lukes and St Mathews Primary School for 35,880.38 together with allowances of 5,795, giving a total of 41,675.38.

 

The Committee noted that Dundee Contract Services had listed the undernoted sub-contractor:-

 

A & J Maintenance, Dundee - Scaffolding

 

IV FOLLOW-UP INSPECTION REPORT: INSPECTION OF THE EDUCATION FUNCTIONS OF DUNDEE CITY COUNCIL

 

There was submitted Report No 613-2003 by the Director of Education informing the Committee of the contents of the joint follow-up report by Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Education in partnership with the Accounts Commission into the Education Functions of Dundee City Council.

 

The Committee congratulated all members of Education Department staff on the achievement of such a positive report for the City, and that the Director of Education ensures that the Committee's congratulations are communicated to all staff. The Director of Education to continue the development of the Education Department in accordance with the Education Department Development Plan

2002-05 and continue to provide regular feedback on progress to the Committee.
