The minute of meeting of this Committee of 20th September 2004 was held as read.

I PURCHASE OF TELETRUK

 

There was submitted Report No 711-2004 by the Head of Waste Management seeking authority to purchase a multi purpose mini telescopic handler for the Waste Processing and Recycling Plant at Baldovie within the Waste Management Department.

 

The Committee agreed that the offer amounting to 22,890 from Scot JCB Ltd for the purchase of a multi purpose mini telescopic handler be accepted.

 

II PURCHASE OF STREET SWEEPER

 

On a reference to Article I of the minute of meeting of the Policy and Resources Committee of 30th June 2003, wherein authority was given to purchase vehicles from the Quality of Life budget, there was submitted Agenda Note AN402-2004 seeking approval for the acceptance of the offer from Applied Sweepers Ltd, Falkirk, amounting to 33,950 for the purchase of an Applied 525 High -Speed Green Machine.

 

The Committee agreed that the offer be accepted.

 

III POLLUTANT DISPERSION MODELLING - ADDITIONAL WORKS

 

On a reference to Article VI of the minute of meeting of the Environmental Services and Sustainability Committee meeting of 21st June 2004 wherein approval was given for the appointment of Messrs Casella Stanger Ltd, to undertake pollutant dispersion modelling required to successfully complete the detailed assessment of air quality in Dundee, there was submitted Agenda Note AN403-2004 reporting that additional works amounting to 3,000 had been identified and that the contractor had advised that these works could be carried out in conjunction with the original contract.

 

The Committee agreed to the additional expenditure.

IV FOOD STANDARDS AGENCY

 

There was submitted Agenda Note AN387-2004 reporting that the Council's application to the Food Standards Agency for funding to introduce Food Safety Management Procedures based on Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point Principles had been successful.

 

The Committee noted that the successful bid for 45,178 per annum for two years would be used for training the proprietors and key staff of catering establishments within Dundee to meet the requirements of new food safety legislation due to be introduced in January 2006.

 

V TENDERS RECEIVED - BALDOVIE WASTE MANAGEMENT PLANT

 

There was submitted Report No 670-2004 advising that a tender had been received for the construction of a new building for recycling of waste. The building would be approximately 1200m2 and would have re-inforced concrete walls with a steel sheeted roof. The works would also include the clearance of a disused refuelling bund currently on the site and the renewal of the associated roads and drainage around the new building.

 

The Committee agreed that the tender received from Torith Ltd, amounting to 398,506.11 be accepted.

 

The Committee resolved under Section 50(A)(4) of the Local Government (Scotland) Act, 1973 that the press and public be excluded from the meeting for the undernoted item of business on the grounds that this would involve the likely disclosure of exempt information as defined in paragraphs 3, 6 and 9 of Part 1 of Schedule 7(A) to the above Act.

 

VI CIVIC GOVERNMENT (SCOTLAND) ACT, 1982 - SECTION 87(1) - BUILDINGS IN NEED OF REPAIR

 

There was submitted Agenda Note AN388-2004 reporting that notices had been served on the owners of various properties requiring works to be carried out.

 

The Committee agreed that the Head of Environmental Health & Trading Standards be authorised to carry out the works should the owners not comply within the time period allowed in the notices.
