The minute of meeting of this Committee of 18th October, 2004 was held as read.

I TAYSCREEN

 

The Director of Economic Development submitted Report No 729-2004 on the above project.

 

The Committee:-

 

(a) noted that the project had been very successful to date and that European Regional Development Funding was secured in reducing quantity until the end of 2006;

 

(b) agreed to the addition of a time limited administration support position for the project and the increase in the number of partners if discussion was positive; and

 

(c) agreed to the project continuing for a further three years to the end of 2007 as detailed in the report.

 

II REPLACEMENT FLIGHT CATERING VEHICLE FOR DUNDEE AIRPORT

 

The Director of Economic Development submitted Report No 738-2004 requesting approval for the appointment of a specialist contractor to supply the above vehicle.

 

The Committee agreed to accept the offer from Keillor Coachbuilders Ltd, Arbroath for the design, construction and supply of a flight catering vehicle for Dundee Airport at a cost of 45,000.

 

III TENDERS RECEIVED

 

The City Architectural Services Officer submitted Report No 707-2004 giving details of offers received for the undernoted contracts:-

 

(a) VARIOUS DUNDEE CITY COUNCIL PROPERTIES - INSPECTION AND TESTING OF ELECTRICAL INSTALLATIONS (AREA 2)

 

The Committee agreed to accept the lowest offer by Jaydee Heating and Electrical amounting to 71,800, to which required to be added an allowance of 7,180 for professional services, making a total expenditure of 78,980.

 

(b) VARIOUS DUNDEE CITY COUNCIL PROPERTIES - INSPECTION AND TESTING OF ELECTRICAL INSTALLATIONS (AREA 3)

 

The Committee agreed to accept the lowest offer by Jaydee Heating and Electrical amounting to 109,200, to which required to be added an allowance of 10,920 for professional services, making a total expenditure of 120,120.

 

(c) VARIOUS DUNDEE CITY COUNCIL PROPERTIES - SERVICE AND MAINTENANCE CONTRACT FOR EMERGENCY LIGHTING SYSTEMS (AREA 2)

 

The Committee agreed to accept the lowest offer by Hydro Contracting amounting to 29,325, to which required to be added an allowance of 2,933 for professional services, making a total expenditure of 32,258.

 

(d) VARIOUS DUNDEE CITY COUNCIL PROPERTIES - SERVICE AND MAINTENANCE CONTRACT FOR EMERGENCY LIGHTING SYSTEMS (AREA 3)

 

The Committee agreed to accept the lowest offer by Hydro Contracting amounting to 38,405, to which required to be added an allowance of 3,840 for professional services, making a total expenditure of 42,245.

 

(e) VARIOUS DUNDEE CITY COUNCIL PROPERTIES - SERVICE AND MAINTENANCE CONTRACT FOR FIRE DETECTION AND ALARM SYSTEMS (AREA 2)

 

The Committee agreed to accept the lowest offer by McGill Electrical Ltd amounting to 13,613, to which required to be added an allowance of 1,361 for professional services, making a total expenditure of 14,974.

 

(f) VARIOUS DUNDEE CITY COUNCIL PROPERTIES - SERVICE AND MAINTENANCE CONTRACT FOR FIRE DETECTION AND ALARM SYSTEMS (AREA 3)

 

The Committee agreed to accept the lowest offer by Scotshield Ltd amounting to 17.266, to which required to be added an allowance of 1,727 for professional services, making a total expenditure of 18,993.

 

(g) VARIOUS DUNDEE CITY COUNCIL PROPERTIES - WATER HYGIENE - EDUCATION AND COMMUNITIES

 

The Committee agreed to accept the negotiated offer with the specialist contractor, Building Environmental Hygiene Ltd amounting to 17,000, to which required to be added an allowance of 1,700 for professional services, making a total expenditure of 18,700.

 

(h) VARIOUS DUNDEE CITY COUNCIL PROPERTIES - WATER HYGIENE - LEISURE AND ARTS

 

The Committee agreed to accept the negotiated offer with the specialist contractor, ION Ltd, Coatbridge amounting to 30,900, to which required to be added an allowance of 3,090 for professional services, making a total expenditure of 33,990.

 

IV PROPOSED CENTRE FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF SMALL AND MEDIUM SIZED ENTERPRISES (SME'S) IN THECONCRETE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY

 

There was submitted Agenda Note AN408-2004 advising that the Council had been approached by the Concrete Technology Unit at the University of Dundee for support to establish a centre to transfer the work of the Unit to the Small and Medium sized Enterprises (SME'S) construction community based at Dundee University and employing initially four people.

 

The Committee agreed to make a grant of 5,000 available to the project.

 

The Committee resolved under Section 50(A)(4) of the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973 that the press and public be excluded from the meeting for the undernoted items of business on the grounds that they involved the likely disclosure of exempt information as defined in paragraphs 6 and 9 of Part I of Schedule 7A of the Act.

 

V COMMERCIAL LEASES

 

There was submitted and approved Report No 732-2004 by the Director of Economic Development detailing Commercial Leases in respect of the undernoted premises:-

 

Ground, Balmerino Road

159 Perth Road

54 High Street, Lochee.

 

VI RENT REVIEWS

 

There was submitted and approved Report No 728-2004 by the Director of Economic Development detailing the review of rent in respect of 24 Craigie Avenue.
