I PLANNING APPLICATION

04-00774-FUL - SITE 5, MEDIPARK, TOM MCDONALD AVENUE - CONSTRUCTION OF ACCESS ROAD EXTENSION AND PROVISION OF DRAINAGE INFRASTRUCTURE FOR SCOTTISH ENTERPRISE TAYSIDE

The Committee approved the application subject to the conditions recommended by the Director of Planning and Transportation.

The Convener agreed that the undernoted item be considered as a matter of urgency in terms of Standing Order No 17(b) in view of the timescales involved.

II TELECOMMUNICATIONS ISSUES

The Convener and the Director gave a brief update on telecommunications issues. Reference was made to recent press reports following the publication of the results of research from Sir William Stewart regarding the use of mobile phone handsets by 4 to 8 year olds. It was reported that the Convener and Director had contacted COSLA requesting that they seek clarification from the Scottish Executive of previously issued guidance on the matter; COSLA had agreed to take the matter forward and had invited the Convener and the Director to speak at a forthcoming Committee meeting; in addition the Director was carrying out a survey of all COSLA members to seek their view. It was also reported that a meeting had been held with telecommunications operators in the City regarding the assessment of alternative sites; this meeting had been very positive and it was hoped that operators would now work much more closely with officers of the Council in this regard.

ROD WALLACE, Convener.
