I MINUTE OF MEETING OF CASES SUB-COMMITTEE

 

The minute of meeting of the Cases Sub-Committee held on 19th April 2005 was submitted and noted for information and record purposes, a copy of which is attached as an Appendix to this minute.

 

II PERFORMANCE INSPECTION OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE, SOCIAL WORK SERVICES

 

On a reference to Article II of minute of meeting of this Committee of 18th April 2005 there was submitted Report No 299-2005 by the Director of Social Work on the proposed actions arising from the inspection of the Criminal Justice Social Work Services within the Tayside Partnership. The partnership would have three months to submit an action plan to the Social Work Services Inspectorate Agency detailing how the recommendations would be progressed, this would be reviewed by the Inspectorate after a period of one year.

 

The Committee agreed that the action plan be approved and that it be submitted to the Social Work Services Inspectorate Agency Office, Scottish Executive.

 

III STANDARD CHARGES FOR LOCAL AUTHORITY RESIDENTIAL UNITS

 

There was submitted Report No 320-2005 by the Director of Social Work recommending that the undernoted level of standard charge be applied in 2005/2006 for local authority residential accommodation for adults.

The Committee agreed:-

 

(i) that the standard charges for local authority residential accommodation be implemented from April 2005 as indicated, and

 

(ii) that it be noted that the costs for the Whitetop Centre reflected a full establishment required to meet Care Commission standards.

 

IV DELAYED DISCHARGE REPORT - ANNUAL CENSUS

 

There was submitted Report No 315-2005 by the Director of Social Work on progress in achieving targets for the reduction of delayed discharges.

 

The Committee agreed:-

 

(i) that it be noted that Dundee had achieved the targets set by the Scottish Executive for the reduction in delayed discharges; and

 

(ii) that the actions of the Director of Social Work to continue to minimise delayed discharges be noted and endorsed.

 

The Convener had agreed that the undernoted item also be considered as a matter of urgency in terms of Standing Order No 17(b) and in view of the timescales.

 

V CONFERENCE - TACKLING RE-OFFENDING IN SCOTLAND - A NEW APPROACH

 

There was submitted agenda note AN219-2005 reporting that a one-day conference on Tackling Re-Offending in Scotland would take place at the Carlton Hotel, North Bridge, Edinburgh on Monday, 23rd May 2005.

 

The cost of attendance would be approximately 270 per person, excluding travel and subsistence allowances.

 

The Committee agreed that elected member attendance at the conference be on the basis of one member of the Administration, one member of the SNP Group and one member of the Conservative Group.
