The minute of meeting of this Committee of 24th October 2005 was held as read.

I MINOR CAPITAL WORKS 2005/2006

 

There was submitted Report No 690-2005 by the Director of Social Work seeking approval for the City Architectural Services Officer to obtain offers, tenders or negotiate partnerships and for the Depute Chief Executive (Support Services) in conjunction with the Director of Social Work to accept these offers, tenders or partnership agreements for Minor Capital Works up to a total cost of 210,000.

 

The Committee agreed:-

 

(i) that the City Architectural Services Officer be authorised to obtain offers, tenders or partnership agreements for the Minor Capital Works detailed in the report; and

 

(ii) that the Depute Chief Executive (Support Services) in conjunction with the Director of Social Work be authorised to accept the offers, tenders or partnership agreements as recommended by the City Architectural Services Offer for these works to be undertaken by Dundee Contract Services and other contractors.

 

II CHOOSE LIFE

 

On a reference to Article II of the minute of meeting of 16th February 2004 wherein proposals for the implementation of the Choose Life Strategy were approved there was submitted Agenda Note AN454-2005 reporting that discussions had been ongoing with Angus Council as to the possibility of appointing a Development Officer for Choose Life. Their remit would include:-

 

7         taking the lead role in the implementation of the National Choose Life Policy Initiative and local suicide prevention strategies across Angus and Dundee;

 

7         developing a training programme which raises public awareness and increases the skill base of those working with those affected by suicidal thoughts;

 

7         co-ordinating both statutory and voluntary sector organisations contributions to suicide prevention.

Members of the Choose Life Steering Group in Dundee had approved funding to the level of 17,000 for this purpose. The post would be established within Angus Council and graded at PO1 Scale (26,379-28,632) and would be temporary up to March 2008.

 

The Committee approved the release of the funding for this purpose.
