I EDUCATION TRANSPORT CONTRACTS

 

(a) CONVEYANCE OF SCHOLARS INCLUDING SPORTS CONVEYANCE

 

There was submitted Report No 470-2006 by the Director of Planning and Transportation and Director of Education detailing tenders received for the Conveyance of Scholars.

 

The Committee approved the tenders as detailed in Appendices 1 and 2 of the report.

 

(b) CONVEYANCE OF SCHOLARS, INCLUDING SPORTS CONVEYANCE - CHANGE OF CONTRACTOR

 

There was submitted Agenda Note AN256-2006. The Committee were asked to note that Education Transport Contract DSP/12 was awarded to Mr John Henderson at the Recess Sub-Committee on 20th July, 2006 who subsequently was unable to fulfil the contract. The transport requirements for this contract had been accommodated through Contract DSP/83, details which were included in Report No 470-2006 (Education Transport Contracts - Conveyance of Scholars, including Sports Conveyance).

 

The Committee noted the above.

 

II TENDERS RECEIVED

 

There was submitted Report No 484-2006 by the City Architectural Services Officer detailing tenders received and requesting a decision thereon:-

(i) ST JOHN'S RC HIGH SCHOOL - REMOVAL OF ALL FURNITURE AND EQUIPMENT

 

The Committee agreed to accept the lowest offer by Dundee Removal Services Limited, Dundee for 50,123.00, together with an allowance of 7,143.00 for professional services, making a total expenditure of 57,266.00.

 

(ii) ST JOHN'S RC HIGH SCHOOL - FURNITURE AND EQUIPMENT

 

The Committee agreed to accept offers from the undernoted companies.

 

Tenders were invited on a "part offer" basis and items which conformed to the requirements of the Director of Education were selected for acceptance as follows:-

III PROVISION OF FINANCIAL SUPPORT TO OUT OF SCHOOL CARE CLUBS AND THE INCLUSION GROUP

 

There was submitted Report No 472-2006 by the Director of Education seeking approval to continue to provide funding to Out of School Care clubs, Dundee Out of School Care Network and the Inclusion Group for the delivery of Dundee's Early Years and Childcare Strategy.

IV EARLY YEARS AND CHILDCARE WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT AND TRAINING

 

Councillor Grant declared a non-financial interest by virtue of being the Council's representative on Dundee College Board of Management.

 

Councillor Fordyce declared a non-financial interest by virtue of being employed by Dundee College.

 

Councillor Webster declared a non-financial interest by virtue of being employed by Dundee University.

 

There was submitted Report No 473-2006 by the Director of Education, seeking approval to deliver the Early Years and Childcare Workforce Development Strategy and to make payments to a range of training bodies providing training and support to those working in childcare across Dundee.

 

The Committee approved the payment of fees to training bodies as outlined in Appendix 1 of the report noted below:-

V EDUCATION (ADDITIONAL SUPPORT FOR LEARNING) (SCOTLAND) ACT 2004 - IMPLEMENTATION PROPOSALS

 

There was submitted Report No 490-2006 by the Director of Education bringing forward proposals to support the local implementation of the Education (Additional Support for Learning) (Scotland) Act 2004.

 

The Committee approved the multi-agency ASL Act implementation support proposals as outlined in the report.

 

The Committee resolved under Section 50(A)(4) of the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973 that the press and public be excluded from the meeting for the undernoted item of business on the grounds that it involved the likely disclosure of exempt information as defined in paragraph 5 of Part I of Schedule 7A of the Act.

 

VI REQUEST FOR EDUCATION AT HOME

 

(a) There was submitted Report No 475-2006 by the Director of Education bringing to the attention of the Committee an application for the provision of education at home.
