City Development Committee - 11/09/2006

At a MEETING of the ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE held at Dundee on 11th September, 2006.

I FORMER BALERNO CENTRE SITE, BALERNO STREET

Reference was made to Article VII of the minute of meeting of the Social Work Committee of 21st August, 2006, wherein the Committee approved the contract for the construction of the replacement for Janet Brougham Home for Older People on the site of the former Balerno Centre. There was submitted Agenda Note AN308-2006 advising that the site was currently held on the Economic Development account and seeking approval to transfer to the Social Work account at a nil transfer value.

The Committee approved the transfer.

It was reported that the Convener had agreed that the undernoted item be considered as a matter of urgency in terms of Standing Order 17(b) in view of the timescales involved.

II CHRISTMAS LIGHTS 2006

The Director of Economic Development submitted Report No 544-2006 recommending acceptance of offers for the Christmas lighting display for 2006 from specialist suppliers as undernoted.

(a) NEW DISPLAYS AT CITY SQUARE

The Committee agreed to enter into a three year lease under a negotiated offer with Scotia Animations Limited, Aberdeen at a cost of 102,334.00.

(b) ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION

The Committee agreed to accept the negotiated offer with Dundee Contract Services to carry out the above works for the sum of 183,080.00, together with allowances of 15,000.00 for infrastructure development, 895.00 for Planning Supervisor and 12,326.00 professional services making a total expenditure of 211,301.00.

The Committee also noted that Dundee Contract Services had listed Terkan Limited, Scone as the sub-contractor for lights.

The Committee resolved under Section 50(A)(4) of the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973 that the press and public be excluded from the meeting for the undernoted items of business on the grounds that they involved the likely disclosure of exempt information as defined in Paragraphs 6 and 9 of Part I of Schedule 7A of the Act.

There was submitted Report No 507-2006 by the Director of Economic Development detailing commercial leases in respect of the undernoted premises:-
