There was submitted Agenda Note AN362-2006 whereby it was recommended that:

7                                             All Community Centres be closed from Friday, 22nd until Tuesday, 26th December, 2006 inclusive, and closed again on Monday, 1st and Tuesday, 2nd January, 2007;

7                                             Central Library and all Community Libraries be closed from Saturday, 23rd until Tuesday, 26th December, 2006 inclusive and closed again on Monday, 1st and Tuesday, 2nd January, 2007.

Experience had shown on the day before festive public holidays, Central Library and Community Libraries were very quiet. It was recommended that libraries scheduled to open beyond 5pm on Friday, 22nd December, 2006 close at 5pm on that date.

7                                             The Corner would be open Friday, 22nd December, normal times and Saturday, 23rd December, 1pm - 4pm.

7                                             Ancrum Outdoor Education Centre would be open normal times over Christmas and New Year and closed on Public Holidays except for 27th/28th/29th December when it would be open from 9am to 5pm only.

7                                             Community Safety Wardens would be operational over this period and could be contacted on the normal telephone number (01382) 436333.

Where appropriate, staff timetables would be adjusted to take account of these opening hours ie all staff throughout the Department would have the equivalent of five public holidays. Consultation had taken place with trade union representatives regarding these arrangements.

Notices would be posted advising the public of the holiday period opening hours.

The Committee approved these recommendations.
