I PLAY AREA IMPROVEMENTS PHASE VII

 

The Director of Leisure and Communities submitted Report No 651-2006 seeking approval to award the above contract to Play Practice, specialist suppliers, to design, supply and construct a new play area at Stobsmuir Park for the sum of 36,000 together with a 10% contingency sum of 4,000, making a total expenditure of 40,000.

 

The Committee approved Play Practice as the specialist contractor.

 

II CAMPERDOWN WILDLIFE CENTRE - OTTER ENCLOSURE

 

On a reference to Article I of the minute of meeting of this Committee of 23rd August, 2004, the Director of Leisure and Communities submitted Report No 673-2006 seeking approval to progress with the otter enclosure project and accept offers for specialist works.

 

The Committee agreed to accept the undernoted offers from specialist suppliers:-

 

(a)

Construction of 2 pools including pumping system etc

The Committee also noted that 15,000 had been gifted by Total Oil with the balance of 6,452 being met from the Quality of Life funding for 2006/2007.

 

III CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR CLOSURE IN LEISURE AND ARTS FACILITIES

 

The Director of Leisure and Communities submitted Report No 650-2006 informing the Committee of the Festive Season closing times within Leisure and Arts facilities.

 

The Committee approved the closing times as detailed in Appendix 1 of the report shown below:-

IV OLYMPIA

 

The Convener, Lord Provost Letford and Councillors Duncan, Hind and Wallace declared a non-financial interest as Directors of Dundee Leisure.

 

(a) CLOSURE FOR ESSENTIAL REPAIRS

 

There was submitted Agenda Note AN375-2006 requesting approval for the closure of Olympia to enable the annual equipment survey and essential maintenance programme to be carried out from Monday, 4th to Sunday, 17th December, 2006 inclusive.

 

The Committee approved the closure as detailed and noted that alternative facilities would be available at Lochee Swimming and Leisure Centre during the closure period.

 

(b) CUBICLE ADAPTATIONS

 

There was submitted Agenda Note AN376-2006 advising that in order to continue to develop and meet the needs of disabled persons, it was proposed that specific cubicles be created at Olympia for those persons with profound or complex needs.

 

The Committee agreed to accept an offer of 6,300 from Dundee Contract Services to carry out the necessary works.

 

V FRIENDS OF WESTERN CEMETERY

 

Councillor Macpherson declared a non-financial interest by reason of his connection with the group involved.

 

There was submitted Agenda Note AN377-2006 advising that the Leisure and Communities Department had been approached by the West End Community Council in respect of setting up a Friends of Western Cemetery Group to work with the Department in relation to maximising external funding for improvements such as interpretation, landscape and headstone restoration, etc.

 

The Committee remitted to the Director of Leisure and Communities to work with the Friends of Western Cemetery with their proposals and to identify early action where there could be joint working and to bring forward the Master Plan for further consideration by this Committee.

 

VI DAWSON PARK FOOTPATHS IMPROVEMENTS 2006/2007

 

There was submitted Agenda Note AN378-2006. On a reference to Article IX of the minute of meeting of the Planning and Transportation Committee of 20th June, 2005 which approved a Partnership Agreement with Tayside Contracts for road maintenance and minor road works service, the Committee instructed the City Engineer to extend this Partnering Agreement to undertake the improvements of the above footpaths with Tayside Contracts up to a value of 10,000.

 

The Committee resolved under Section 50(A)(4) of the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973 that the press and public be excluded from the meeting for the undernoted items of business on the grounds that they involved the likely disclosure of exempt information as defined in paragraphs 6 and 9 of Part I of Schedule 7A of the Act.

 

VII LEASE OF GROUND - OLD GLAMIS ROAD

 

There was submitted Agenda Note AN379-2006 advising that an interested company had applied to lease an area of ground adjacent to the Dick McTaggart Centre, Old Glamis Road for the erection of an indoor Soccer Centre.

 

The Director of Economic Development reported that after consultation with the Director of Leisure and Communities, provisional agreement had been reached to lease the site to the interested company on the terms and conditions detailed.

 

The Committee approved accordingly.

 

VIII LEASE OF MAINS CASTLE, CAIRD PARK

 

There was submitted Agenda Note AN380-2006 giving details of two offers received for the above lease.

 

The Director of Economic Development reported that, after consultation with the Director of Leisure and Communities, the most advantageous offer was recommended for acceptance on the terms and conditions detailed.

 

The Committee approved accordingly.
