The minute of meeting of this Committee of 16th October, 2006 was held as read.

I 6 CITIES DESIGN FESTIVAL

 

The Director of Economic Development submitted Report No 627-2006 updating Dundee's involvement in the above project and outlining the progress to date.

 

The Committee noted the dates of the Festival in 2007 as Wednesday, 30th May to Friday, 1st June and the progress being made in developing the Dundee Contribution and also remitted to the Director of Economic Development to oversee the local budget.

 

II TENDERS RECEIVED

 

(a) There was submitted Report No 631-2006 by the City Architectural Services Officer giving details of offers received for the undernoted contracts:

 

(i) VARIOUS LOCATIONS - DEPLOYABLE CAMERA SYSTEM (REISSUE)

 

The Committee agreed to accept the lowest offer by Scottish Communications, Perth amounting to 174,385.14 together with an allowance of 1,678 for professional services making a total expenditure of 176,063.14.

 

(ii) COUNCIL HQ COMPLEX - MANNED GUARDING 2007-2008

 

The Committee agreed to accept the lowest offer by Profile Security Services Limited amounting to 88,576.80 together with an allowance of 1,329 for professional services making a total expenditure of 89,905.80.

 

(iii) VARIOUS DUNDEE CITY COUNCIL PROPERTIES - SERVICE AND MAINTENANCE OF FIRE EXTINGUISHING EQUIPMENT

 

The Committee agreed to accept the lowest offer by Kidde Fire Protection Services, Glasgow, amounting to 44,800 together with an allowance of 4,480 for professional services making a total expenditure of 49,280.

(b) THE CITY ENGINEER SUBMITTED REPORT NO 618-2006 GIVING DETAILS OF OFFERS RECEIVED FOR THE DEMOLITION OF 17-29 ANNFIELD ROAD

 

The Committee agreed to accept the lowest offer by D Geddes (Contractors) Limited amounting to 71,800.84 together with the undernoted allowances:-

III BURNS AND HARRIS - REMEDIAL SITE MEASURES

 

There was submitted Agenda Note AN368-2006 advising that to allow for redevelopment of the former Burns and Harris site at West Marketgait in early 2007 the existing building required to be demolished and remediation measures undertaken to deal with any ground contamination. In view of the critical timescales associated with these works the Director of Economic Development had instructed the City Engineer to arrange for demolition tenders to be sought and to undertake an Environmental Assessment (EA) of the site.

 

The Committee authorised the City Engineer to accept the most favourable tender and noted that W A Fairhurst and Partners had been appointed to undertake the Environmental Assessment with details of the demolition tenders and any necessary ground remediation measures being reported to a future meeting of this Committee.

 

The Committee resolved under Section 50(A)(4) of the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973 that the press and public be excluded from the meeting for the undernoted items of business on the grounds that they involved the likely disclosure of exempt information as defined in paragraphs 6 and 9 of Part I of Schedule 7A of the Act.

 

IV COMMERCIAL LEASES

 

There was submitted and approved Report No 625-2006 by the Director of Economic Development detailing commercial leases in respect of the undernoted premises:-

Unit 12A Peddie Street

 

V RENT REVIEWS

 

There was submitted and approved Report No 626-2006 by the Director of Economic Development detailing a rent review in respect of premises at 85 Fintry Road.

 

VI SALE OF LAND AT CLEMENT PARK PLACE

 

On a reference to Article XI of the minute of meeting of this Committee of 14th August, 2006 the Director of Economic Development submitted Report No 633-2006 seeking approval to the sale of premises and site at Clement Park Place extending to 0.326 hectares or thereby.

 

The Committee approved the sale of the subjects on the terms and conditions detailed.
