The minute of meeting of this Committee of 27th August, 2007 was held as read.

Unless marked thus * all items stand delegated.

Prior to the commencement of business, the Convener referred to the media attention surrounding Sidlaw View Primary and advised members that this was the time for the Committee to show unity and support for the school, noting that staff members at this school should be praised for their efforts in achieving increased levels of attainment.

Thereafter, the Leader of the Administration advised that he had reached agreement with the leaders of all the political groups on the Council about the format of an independent inquiry to look at the allegations regarding Sidlaw View, and it was hoped that the findings of the inquiry could be reported to the Education Committee in eight weeks time.

I EDUCATION DEVELOPMENT SERVICE - RELOCATION FROM NORTHERN COLLEGE TO ROCKWELL SECONDARY SCHOOL BUILDING

There was submitted Report No 458-2007 by the Director of Education, seeking approval for the relocation of the Educational Development Service and the ICT Training Suite from Northern College to Rockwell Secondary School building.

The Committee authorised the above.

II CHURCH AND TEACHER REPRESENTATION ON THE EDUCATION COMMITTEE

There was submitted Agenda Note AN223-2007, whereby reference was made to Article XI of the minute of meeting of the Statutory Meeting of the City Council of 24th May, 2007, wherein it was agreed that the current Church and Teacher representatives continue for a further period of six months to allow arrangements to be made for new representatives to be appointed to the Committee.

Nominations were received on behalf of the Church of Scotland and the Roman Catholic Church.

Rev James Wilson (Church of Scotland)

Very Rev Monsignor Kenneth McCaffrey (Roman Catholic Church)

In relation to the third religious representative, no nominations were received in response to press advertising. An approach was made to Mr Bashir Chohan, the current third religious representative to continue in his role for the lifetime of the Council, which he agreed to do.

All three nominees agreed to abide by the Code of Practice in accordance with the Standard Commission's Guidance.

The Committee approved the appointments and noted that arrangements would be made for the remaining appointments.

Laurie BIDWELL, Convener.
