I PERTH PRISON VISITING COMMITTEE

There was submitted Agenda Note AN213-2009 whereby reference was made to Article I of the minute of meeting of the City Council of 26th January, 2009, wherein it was agreed that Mr Jim Macauley be appointed to serve on this Committee and it be remitted to the Groups to forward any further Councillor or non-Councillor nominations to the Depute Chief Executive (Support Services) to fill the remaining vacancy or any future vacancy.

It was reported that no nominations had been forwarded by the Groups to the Depute Chief Executive (Support Services) and following the resignation of Mr Trevor Bailey and the death of Mr Derry Fleming, there were now three vacancies on the Committee.

It was suggested that it be remitted to the Depute Chief Executive (Support Services) to advertise the vacancies and that candidates be subject to an informal discussion with the Visiting Committee, a visit to the prison and that recommendations regarding appointments be made to the City Council. All appointments would also be subject to a disclosure check.

It was also proposed that future vacancies for both Perth Prison Visiting Committee and the Open Estate Visiting Committee be dealt with in a similar manner.

The Council approved accordingly.
