II DEMOLITION OF 151 HILLTOWN

There was submitted Agenda Note 29-2010 reporting that the City Engineer was instructed by the Director of Housing to obtain tenders for the demolition of the property at 151 Hilltown. It was attached to property at 119-143 Hilltown which was being demolished by Gowrie Contracts and due for completion in January 2010. The contract for 119‑143 Hilltown included substantial temporary works to maintain the stability of 151 Hilltown until it could be demolished. The construction of both buildings was similar and the contract for 119-143 Hilltown was won by Gowrie Contracts through competitive tender.

For reasons of timing, cost savings and continuing structural stability of 151 Hilltown, the Chief Executive approved the negotiation of an extension to Gowrie's contract based on the existing tendered rates.

Given the limited timescales available, the Depute Chief Executive (Support Services) and the City Engineer, after consultation with the Convener and Spokespersons of the other Groups, accepted the offer from Gowrie Contracts. The contract amount was for 62,280 which, together with allowances of 5,600 for CDM Co-ordinator and Professional Services and 18,120 for public utilities, post demolition treatment works and contingencies, make a total expenditure of 86,000.

The Committee noted the foregoing for information.

Jimmy BLACK, Convener.
