I PARTNERSHIP REMOVALS CONTRACT 2008/2010 - EXTENSION TO CONTRACT

 

There was submitted Report No 232-2010 by the City Architectural Services Officer seeking approval to extend the existing contract for a period of one year.

 

The Convener, seconded by Councillor Hunter, moved approval of the report to extend the existing contract by one year. As an amendment, Councillor Macpherson, seconded by Councillor Dick, moved to note the report but put the contract out to tender with immediate effect.

 

On a division, there voted for the motion - the Lord Provost, Depute Lord Provost, Convener, Bailies Sawers and Regan, Councillors Guild, Barrie, Black, Bowes, Andy Dawson, Will Dawson, Duncan, Hunter, Lynn, Melville, Roberts, Ross, Keenan, Asif, Bidwell, Ferguson, Gordon and McCready, Mr Baillie and Mrs Millar (25); and for the amendment - Bailies Wallace and Scott and Councillors Hay, Macpherson and Dick (5) - whereupon the motion was declared carried.

 

II PROVISION OF FINANCIAL SUPPORT TO VOLUNTARY SECTOR PARTNERS

 

There was submitted Report No 220-2010 by the Director of Education seeking approval to provide funding to voluntary sector partners for the continued delivery of childcare services.

 

The Committee approved the report and funding of 60,000 as outlined in the Appendix to the report noted below:-

III TENDERS RECEIVED

 

There was submitted Report No 233-2010 by the City Architectural Services Officer detailing tenders received and requesting a decision thereon:-

 

(i) KINGSPARK SCHOOL - REMOVAL OF FURNITURE AND EQUIPMENT

 

The Committee agreed to accept a partnering project offer with Dundee Contract Services for 45,000, together with an allowance of 3,200 for professional services, making a total expenditure of 48,200.

 

(ii) MENZIESHILL NURSERY SCHOOL - UPGRADE TO KITCHEN/SERVERY FACILITIES

 

The Committee agreed to accept a negotiated offer with Dundee Contract Services for 15,847, together with an allowance of 2,258 for professional services, making a total expenditure of 18,105.

 

(iii) CRAIGIE HIGH SCHOOL - UPGRADE TO TECHNICAL DEPARTMENT

 

The Committee agreed to accept a negotiated offer with Dundee Contract Services for 104,243.20, together with an allowance of 15,272 for professional services, making a total expenditure of 119,515.20.

 

(iv) BRAEVIEW ACADEMY - UPGRADE TO TECHNICAL DEPARTMENT

 

The Committee agreed to accept a negotiated offer with Dundee Contract Services for 81,597, together with an allowance of 12,908 for professional services, making a total expenditure of 94,505.

 

(v) ST NINIAN'S RC PRIMARY SCHOOL - WINDOW REPLACEMENT

 

The Committee agreed to accept a negotiated offer with Dundee Contract Services for 68,308, together with an allowance of 6,808 for professional services, making a total expenditure of 75,116.

 

(vi) ST NINIAN'S RC PRIMARY SCHOOL - GYM WINDOW REPLACEMENT

 

The Committee agreed to accept a negotiated offer with Dundee Contract Services for 39,903, together with an allowance of 4,167 for professional services, making a total expenditure of 44,070.

 

(vii) SIDLAWVIEW PRIMARY SCHOOL - WINDOW REPLACEMENT

 

The Committee agreed to accept a negotiated offer with Dundee Contract Services for 70,365, together with an allowance of 6,779 for professional services, making a total expenditure of 77,144.

 

(viii) MENZIESHILL HIGH SCHOOL - WINDOW REPLACEMENT

 

The Committee agreed to accept a negotiated offer with Dundee Contract Services for 163,735, together with an allowance of 22,923 for professional services, giving a total expenditure of 186,658.

 

(ix) ST PETER AND ST PAUL'S RC PRIMARY SCHOOL - HEATING REPLACEMENT (MAIN BUILDING)

 

The Committee agreed to accept the lowest offer by Jaydee Heating and Electrical for 124,281.39, together with allowances of 1,344 for CDM Co-ordinator and 17,711 for professional services, giving a total expenditure of 143,336.39.

 

The Committee noted that Jaydee Heating and Electrical had listed the undernoted Sub-Contractor:-

 

AA Thermal, Glenrothes - Insulation

 

(x) GOWRIEHILL PRIMARY SCHOOL - HEATING REPLACEMENT (GAS SUPPLY)

 

The Committee agreed to accept a quotation from Scottish and Southern Energy Ltd for 15,847, together with an allowance of 2,258 for professional services, making a total expenditure of 18,105.

 

IV EDUCATION COMMITTEE - TEACHER REPRESENTATIVES

 

There was submitted Agenda Note AN63-2010, wherein reference was made to Article III of the statutory meeting of the City Council of 24th May, 2007, where it was agreed to appoint two teaching staff representatives to this Committee.

 

A letter had been received from Mr Eric Baillie, one of the teacher representatives, intimating his resignation from the Education Committee effective from 30th June, 2010 as he would be retiring from his teaching post at Braeview Academy at the end of the summer term.

 

The Committee agreed to fill the resultant vacancy and instructed the Depute Chief Executive (Support Services) to make the necessary arrangements to seek nominations.
