I EDUCATION COMMITTEE - TEACHER REPRESENTATIVES

 

There was submitted Agenda Note AN110-2010, where reference was made to Article IV of the meeting of this Committee of 26th April, 2010, where it was agreed to fill a vacancy caused by the retirement of one of the teacher representatives.

 

Two nominations were received and following a ballot of all teachers, the following candidate was successful:-

 

Mr Arthur Forrest - Baldragon Academy

 

The Committee agreed that the above named person be appointed as a member of the Education Committee with immediate effect.

 

II TENDERS RECEIVED

 

There was submitted Agenda Note AN111-2010, where it was reported for information that due to timescales involved, the Director of Education and City Architectural Services Officer, in consultation with the Convener and Opposition Spokespersons, approved the undernoted tenders:-

 

(i) GLEBELANDS PRIMARY SCHOOL - NEW SWITCHGEAR

 

Negotiated contract with Dundee Contract Services for 17,500, together with allowances of 1,500 for sub-main cable and 2,708 for professional services, making a total expenditure of 21,708.

 

(ii) ANCRUM ROAD PRIMARY SCHOOL - CARETAKER'S HOUSE - HEATING AND OTHER REPAIRS

 

Negotiated contract with Dundee Contract Services for 9,100, together with an allowance of 1,297 for professional services, making a total expenditure of 10,397.

 

The Committee noted accordingly.

 

III HARRIS ACADEMY - REVIEW OF FEASIBILITY STUDY

 

There was submitted Report No 565-2010 by the Director of Education describing the options explored for upgrading or replacing Harris Academy and seeking approval to develop more detailed designs for the consideration of Historic Scotland.

 

The Committee:-

 

(i) noted the contents of the report;

 

(ii) agreed that more detailed designs based on Option 4 ("new build on existing site") should be developed for the consideration of Historic Scotland and instructed the Capital Projects Director to continue negotiations with Historic Scotland in this regard;

 

(iii) agreed to retain the services of LDN Architects to complete the full Conservation Study for submission to Historic Scotland and to support the Council in its ongoing negotiations with Historic Scotland at a total cost not exceeding 25,000; and

 

(iv) instructed the Director of Education to report back to this Committee when a design solution had been identified that would meet Historic Scotland's criteria and deliver the required educational functionality.

 

IV WHITFIELD AREA - NEW PRIMARY SCHOOL

 

There was submitted Report No 411-2010 by the City Architectural Services Officer detailing tenders received for the above project and requesting a decision on acceptance of the lowest tender and allowances.

 

The Committee agreed to accept the lowest tender submitted by Robertson Construction Group Ltd, Aberdeen in the amount of 6,292,057.09, together with allowances for:-

V TENDERS RECEIVED

 

There was submitted Report No 599-2010 by the City Architectural Services Officer detailing tenders received and requesting a decision thereon:-

 

(i) LONGHAUGH PRIMARY SCHOOL - RE-ROOFING WORK

 

The Committee agreed to accept a negotiated offer with Dundee Contract Services for 114,616.28, together with allowances of 832 for CDM Co-ordinator and 10,616 for professional services, making a total expenditure of 126,064.28.

 

(ii) ST NINIAN'S RC PRIMARY SCHOOL - RE-ROOFING WORK

 

The Committee agreed to accept a negotiated offer with Dundee Contract Services for 102,300.21, together with allowances of 777 for CDM Co-ordinator and 9,661 for professional services, making a total expenditure of 112,738.21.
