I DECLARATION OF INTEREST

 

No declarations of interest were made.

 

II EQUALITY OUTCOMES 2013-2017

 

There was submitted Report No 176-2013 by the Director of Education informing the Committee of the Equality Outcomes set by the Education Department for the period 2013-2017.

 

The Committee noted the Education Departments Equality Outcomes and approved their implementation.

 

III INCLUSION PLUS: A CONSORTIUM APPROACH TO PREVENTING SCHOOL EXCLUSION

 

There was submitted Report No 177-2013 seeking approval to introduce a two year externally funded research project with the direct aim of supporting young people experiencing difficulties in connecting positively with mainstream secondary education.

 

The Committee agreed to approve the project, in principle, and requested an annual progress update and a report on the final outcome of the project from the Director of Education.

 

IV INTRODUCTION OF SCHOOL AND FAMILY DEVELOPMENT WORKERS

 

There was submitted Report No 179-2013 by the Director of Education proposing the introduction of Family Development Worker posts in the Primary and Early Years sector to further promote the work of early intervention preventative support and support parents and families.

 

The Committee agreed:-

 

(i) to approve the introduction of posts of Early Intervention School and Family Development Worker;

 

(ii) to remit the Director of Education and Head of Human Resources to progress the necessary establishment changes; and

 

(iii) that a Progress Report would be brought back to this Committee within 12 months, including a briefing session for members and non-elected members, and that an updated report from the Director of Education would also be included as part of the annual Education Service Plan update.
