At a MEETING of the EDUCATION COMMITTEE held at Dundee on 19th August, 2013.

The minute of meeting of this Committee of 24th June, 2013 was held as read.

I DECLARATION OF INTEREST

No declarations of interest were made.

II PARENT AND PUPIL REPRESENTATION ON THE EDUCATION COMMITTEE

There was submitted Agenda Note AN83-2013 where reference was made to Article VI of the minute of meeting of the City Council held on 20th August, 2012, wherein it was agreed to seek nominations for parent and pupil representatives on the Education Committee.

The Committee were informed that the pupil representative for 2012/2013 had now left school and the city-wide Pupil Council had nominated Miss Lorna Allan, a pupil at Grove Academy, to be the pupil representative on the Education Committee for session 2013/2014.

With regard to parent representation, Susan Clelland had been re-nominated as the primary representative. The secondary representative would be nominated at the next regular meeting of the Secondary Parent Council Chairs in September.

The nominees had agreed to abide by the Code of Conduct in accordance with the Standards Commission's Guidance.

The Committee noted the appointments.

III REPLACEMENT OF HARRIS ACADEMY

There was submitted Report No 302-2013 by the Chief Executive and Director of Education seeking approval to proceed to Financial Close of the contract to replace Harris Academy.

The Committee:-

(i) noted the contents of the report; and

(ii) agreed to proceed to Financial Close of the contract to replace Harris Academy.

IV SQA ATTAINMENT (PRE-APPEAL DATA - 2013)

There was submitted Report No 340-2013 by the Director of Education informing the Committee of the S4-S6 pupil performance in the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) examination diet of 2013.

The Committee noted the performance of pupils in the May-June 2013 SQA examinations based on pre-appeal data and the ongoing strategies being deployed to raise attainment in Dundee's Secondary Schools.

V PROVISION OF FUNDING SUPPORT TO PRINCES TRUSTS FAIRBRIDGE PROGRAMME IN DUNDEE

There was submitted Report No 327-2013 by the Director of Education seeking approval to award funding to support the work carried out by the Prince's Trust's Fairbridge Programme in Dundee in supporting young people who are excluded or at risk of exclusion from school.

The Committee noted the contents of the report and approved the award of funding to the Prince's Trust in Dundee.
